The best evening yet
It has been a fantastic week for delivering, and it has truly rejuvenated my enthusiasm for the work involved in this side gig. While I realize this renewed excitement may be short-lived, I am more than happy to savour it for now. I have continued to deliver on some evenings once I have finished my day job, where I am used to making between £30-£50 for approximately three hours of work. This is particularly true during the week however, on the weekends, I can sometimes reach impressive totals of around £80. Lately, I have been receiving much better orders, and I’m pleased to say that the tips have matched the quality of the deliveries. For instance, I started my delivery shift at 18:00 on Monday evening (09/06), and almost immediately received an order that was just 1.3 miles away, offering £3 for the trip. While I typically pick up these types of orders, I don’t usually expect a tip, especially for a Sainsbury’s order. However, I happily went inside and discovered it was a HUGE order that was only just small enough to fit in my Uber bag. The delivery turned out to be quite heavy. After loading up, I hopped on my bike and made my way to the drop-off location. The customer was incredibly friendly, and I gladly helped them transport the order to their kitchen, as there were many weighted items included in the delivery.
I then continued with my evening shift, picking up and dropping off an array of McDonald's, KFC, and various other little deliveries that kept coming my way. On a couple of the runs I did I see that person from before in the middle of absolutely nowhere. I am still convinced that the smell is the fields and its seem like it may be the poop sprayer in the fields but the smell just has more of a damp earthy tang to it. I still have not got in a position where I can see their face and still can’t be sure if it is a man or a woman (not like it matters). The curiosity is killing me though.
As the clock approached 20:30, I decided it was time to head home for the night. I logged off from the app and quickly checked my report to see how my evening had gone. I was pleased to find that I had successfully completed a total of 12 deliveries and earned £73 for just a few hours of work. Once I settled in at home, I began to receive tips, which was a pleasant surprise. The first few tips ranged from the odd £1 to £3.50, and there were quite a few of them, which added up nicely. But then, to my excitement, I received a remarkable £17.80 tip from that very first delivery. This generous addition truly made my night, bringing my total earnings for the evening to an impressive £138, nearly matching what some people earn in a full day of work. This may not be the most I have earned in a single day but it is the best hourly rate I have archived. I hope this continues.
