the orders are good but the weather is better
The sun has finally come out, bringing with it an increase in orders and overall activity. For the past week or so, I have found myself working longer days, driven by the improved weather conditions and the longer hours of daylight. Often, I discover that I am still out and about later in the evening, as I lose track of time while I am engrossed in my deliveries. With the sun shining brightly until nearly 22:00, it seems that people are also placing their orders later in the day. Consequently, I typically experience a busier period around 19:00 to 21:30, which is both exciting and challenging.
My better half has recently started delivering too, which means we now make it a bit of a friendly competition to see who can complete the most orders and ultimately earn the highest amount in tips. However, I often remind myself that I might not be the more visually appealing option out of the two of us, so I really need to put my customer service skills to the test and work on creating great interactions to ensure a positive experience for our customers.
Now that we find ourselves more in the middle of the month, it seems that the volume of orders has dwindled significantly, leaving many drivers feeling the impact of this decline. In addition, there appears to be a noticeable increase in the number of delivery people working in the area compared to previous weeks, which adds to the competition. This situation often leads to newer drivers being prioritized when they first start, as they are frequently given a slightly higher number of orders than those who have been delivering for a longer period of time. Unfortunately, in a small town setting, when you have around 15 to 20 drivers available at any given time, there simply aren't enough orders to distribute evenly among everyone, which can create some substantial challenges for seasoned delivery drivers trying to earn their keep in this environment. I will keep a close eye on how this upcoming weekend goes and see what unique adventures and experiences Uber will bring my way in the better weather.
